Along with the Feis lle bottles The Scotch Malt Whisky Society are giving us two special releases for the Spirit of Speyside Festival.
These have been sent to me by the SMWS and I will also receive a cut of any sales via the links below, just so we’re 100% clear, okay? Okay.
Today we’re looking at two releases, a cheeky 9 Year Old and a stunning 21 Year Old, but from where, and what are they like I hear you both cry (yeah, there might be two people who read this)? Well wait no longer, let’s dive in.
Andalusian Gazpacho Cask Number 107.13 Glenallachie 65% Refill butt Ex Oloroso.

9 Years Old. This needed a little water, a couple of teaspoons and a good half hour in the glass to let it open up and relax.
Nose. Red wine and charred steak, sea salt, dates, walnuts, sticky toffee pudding and double cream and if left long enough I got some cumin.
Palate. Red wine with Rosemary and Thyme, aged balsamic syrup, those dates again, smoky figs, chocolate orange, walnuts with honey, roasted figs.
Finish. Medium and sweet.
Graceful Gravitas Cask Number 9.143 (Glen Grant) Refill Hogshead Ex Bourbon.

21 Year Old 60.6% Only needs the tiniest amount of water, half a drop. If you’re dropping this kind of coin on a bottle of whisky then do yourself a favour, pour and leave for an hour, trust me, it’ll be worth it.
Nose. Sweet short crust pasty, vanilla pipe tobacco, blackberry jam, honey and maybe some balsamic red onion chutney.
Palate. A sherry sweetness at first moving towards vanilla ice cream, herbal mead, some chocolate too, baked apples, white chocolate, little touch of sulphur but not enough to worry about if it’s not your thing.
Finish. Medium, sweet and baked apple goodness.
Lovely stuff, have some links.
